What is the NSW Family Energy Rebate?

The NSW Family Energy Rebate offers financial assistance to households with dependent children to help cover their electricity costs. Eligible households can receive up to $180 per retail (on-market) household per financial year. Additionally, qualifying households may also receive a one-off National Energy Bill Relief Household Payment of up to $500 in the 2023-24 financial year, provided they meet the eligibility criteria and have not previously received this payment.

Eligibility Criteria and How to Apply

To qualify for the NSW Family Energy Rebate, you must meet the following criteria:

Reside in NSW

Have an electricity account for your home in NSW, with the account and bill in your name

Have received the Family Tax Benefit in the previous financial year and finalized your entitlement to the payments with Centrelink after lodging your tax return with the Australian Tax Office (ATO)

If you meet the eligibility requirements, applying for the NSW Family Energy Rebate is straightforward:

Gather the necessary documents, including the confirmation letter from Services Australia indicating finalization of your Family Tax Benefit for the last financial year, your Services Australia Customer Reference Number (CRN), and your energy account details.

Apply online through the designated portal. Alternatively, download and complete the NSW Family Energy Rebate Application Form if you are unable to apply online.

Submit your application either online or by post to NSW Energy Rebates, PO Box 435, Parramatta NSW 2124.

Upon submission, you will receive a confirmation email outlining the next steps.

Important Information

If your energy retailer is not listed in the online form, you must download and complete the NSW Family Energy Rebate Application Form and submit it by post.

Retail customers will receive the rebate as a lump-sum payment, either $180 or $20 if eligible for the NSW Low Income Household Rebate, credited to their energy bill.

The rebate is applicable only to the principal place of residence, and each household can receive only one NSW Family Energy Rebate per financial year.

Deadline for Applications

Applications for the 2023-24 NSW Family Energy Rebate will close at 11 pm on Sunday, 16 June 2024.
