Pension Rebates on Water Bill

What You Need to Qualify:

Eligible Card or Pension:

You must have a pensioner concession card from Services Australia or the Department of Veterans’ Affairs, or a Veteran Gold Card marked with any of these:

War widow/widower

Extreme Disablement Adjustment (EDA)

Temporarily Totally Incapacitated (TTI)

Totally and Permanently Incapacitated (TPI)

Veterans receiving a Disability Compensation Payment at the TTI rate need to provide documentation if they do not have a Veteran Gold Card. Cards like the Commonwealth Seniors Health Card, Health Care Card, Veteran White Card, or Veteran Orange Card do not qualify.

Property Ownership:

You must own and live in the property, meaning your name should be on the property title deed. Eligible properties include single dwellings, dual occupancies, and certain units. If more than one pension recipient owns and lives in the property, separate applications are needed.

If you’re not a homeowner but are a spouse, life tenant, beneficiary, or have a family or trust arrangement, you may still qualify. For those without a Veteran Gold Card who receive a veteran pension, call 13 20 92 for help.

Understanding Your Savings and Additional Rebates

How Much You Can Save:

The pension rebate is applied to the fixed service charges on each bill. For a typical house with water, wastewater, and stormwater services, the service charges total $195.02 per quarter, and the maximum rebate could be $162.08.

Water Service: Up to 100% of the quarterly service charge, with a maximum of $16.90.

Wastewater Service: 86% of the quarterly service charge.

Stormwater (if applicable): 50% of the quarterly service charge.

Your rebate amount depends on ownership and occupancy. 100% rebate is given if you own your home with a spouse, even if they don't receive a pension. Smaller rebates apply if co-owned with non-pensioners or non-resident pensioners.

Other Rebates and Savings:

If you receive the pension rebate, you’re eligible for a reduced WaterFix® Residential first callout fee. All customers might also receive a rebate if services to your property are interrupted or limited.

Service NSW also provides access to other government rebates such as the Family Energy Rebate, NSW Gas Rebate, and Active Kids vouchers. Any further assistance needed can start by exploring these options.
