Toll Relief: A Guide for Eligible Motorists NSW

Claiming Your Rebate

From April 2024 onwards, eligible motorists can claim rebates for toll spend between $60 and $400 a week on any tags and license plate numbers linked to their personal toll account. The rebate applies specifically to personal trips made in vehicles registered for private use, providing up to $340 for each tag and license plate number each quarter. Plus, the first claim can be backdated to 1 January 2024.

Key Dates to Remember

Mark your calendars with these important dates:

1 January 2024: Toll spend over $60 automatically starts accruing for eligible motorists.

9 April 2024: Claims open for toll relief.

30 June 2025: Claims for toll spend in 2024 close.

30 June 2026: Claims for toll spend in 2025 close.

Any unclaimed rebates for a given quarter will accumulate until the claim period closes, ensuring you don’t miss out on what’s rightfully yours.

Preparing for the Toll Cap

To make the most of the toll relief program, take these steps:

Link Your Toll Account: Connect your toll account to your MyServiceNSW Account for easy access to Toll Tracker, where you can monitor your toll spend and track when you’re eligible to claim relief.

Update Your Details: Ensure your contact and vehicle information is current with your toll provider to streamline the claiming process.

Who’s Eligible?

To qualify for toll relief, you must be a NSW resident and meet the following criteria:

Spend more than $60 a week on tolls (up to $400) on any tags and license plate numbers linked to your personal toll account. (Weekly spend is calculated from Monday to Sunday.)

Maintain an active NSW personal toll account with E-Toll or Linkt that is not suspended or closed.

Accrue toll spend for personal trips on a vehicle registered in NSW for private use, classified as a Class A vehicle (e.g., motorcycle or car), and travel on eligible NSW toll roads.

Not have already received a rebate in the quarter you’re claiming for.

Eligible Toll Spend

Tolls paid on all NSW toll roads count towards your spend, excluding the M5 South-West (if claiming under the M5 South-West Cashback Scheme). Future toll roads will be included once operational.

Ineligible Toll Spend

You cannot claim for tolls paid before 1 January 2024, on vehicles registered for business use, for business trips in vehicles registered for private use, or if they will be reimbursed elsewhere (e.g., by an employer). Additionally, tolls paid for food/courier delivery, taxi, hire car, or ride-share services, as well as tolls outside NSW or on casual toll products, are ineligible.

How to Claim

To claim your rebate, ensure your toll spend meets the eligibility criteria and submit your claim starting 9 April 2024.

By staying informed, updating account details, and submitting claims on time, you can maximize the benefits of this program and enjoy smoother journeys ahead. Don’t let toll costs weigh you down – take advantage of toll relief and drive towards a brighter financial future.
